BRIEFLY WASHINGTON BACK COMMITS TO USC.

USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  has received an oral commitment from running back David Kirtman of Mercer Island, Wash.

Kirtman (6-foot-1, 215 pounds) gained 1,311 yards and scored 18 touchdowns for Mercer Island High, and selected the Trojans over Cal.

``He's a good solid player that has a lot of upside to him,'' said recruiting analyst Rick Kimbrel of PrepStar magazine. ``He'll make our top 350 (players) team.''

USC has now received three commitments.

BOXING: Heavyweight contender David Tua, who hopes to challenge champion Lennox Lewis late this year, will face Obed Sullivan in a tuneup fight on June 3 on Showtime. The site of the bout has not been determined.
