The Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. VALENCIA - Valencia High School's baseball team will host its annual Viking Home Run Derby from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 27 - with top-of-the line baseball and softball bats to be awarded in two contests.

The baseball derby will be on the Valencia High field; softball players will compete at Santa Clarita Central Park.

Sponsor Easton will award its ConneXion bat - a -3, 2 5/8 barrel - to the winner of baseball derby and a 26-ounce ConneXion softball bat to the top hitter in that contest.

All ages are welcome and the cost is $5 for eight pitches. Contestants can enter as many times as they choose. The winners will be decided by the number of pitches in one round.

Money raised in the derby will help pay for a sit-down lawn mower for the Vikings program to maintain the high school field.
