BRIEFLY U.S. FUNDS WILL AID COLLEGE, 3 SCHOOLS.


The U.S. House of Representatives has approved $400,000 to fund a science center at Glendale Community College Glendale Community College can refer to one of two colleges in the United States.
  • Glendale Community College (Arizona)
  • Glendale Community College (California)
 and $40,000 for after-school programs for three elementary schools in La Crescenta, officials said Thursday.

The funds, secured by Rep. Adam B. Schiff, D-Pasadena, are expected to be signed into law by President George W. Bush in the coming days.

Glendale College will use the funds to pay for the construction of the $7.85 million Cimmarusti Science Center, which will feature a planetarium, advanced stations for weather study and labs for anthropology and paleontology.

Valley View, Monte Vista and Mountain Avenue elementary schools will use the federal funds for after-school programs featuring art, computer clubs, sports, dance and other recreational activities.

Building's name will honor Corman

Policy specialist joins LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  panel

WOODLAND HILLS - Public policy specialist Maribel Marin of Woodland Hills has been appointed to head the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  Redistricting Commission, officials announced Thursday.

Marin will be paid $10,000 a month during her tenure on the commission that is to redraw boundary lines for the Board of Education.
