GRANADA HILLS - Two people suffered stab wounds in a group fight in Granada Hills early Saturday, a Los Angeles police sergeant said.

The fight broke out about midnight in the 16600 block of San Fernando Mission Boulevard, said Sgt. John Kielbasa of the Los Angeles Police Department's Devonshire Station.

Both male victims were taken to nearby hospitals, where one was listed in serious condition with a wound to his rib area and the other was treated for minor wounds, Kielbasa said.

The motive for the fight was under investigation, though it did not appear to be gang-related, Kielbasa said.

No suspect description was available.

Rose the cow has first birth of fair

POMONA - As hundreds of people looked on, Rose the cow gave birth to the first animal born at this year's Los Angeles County Fair, fair organizers said Saturday.

The calf, named Buddy, weighed in at 70 pounds when he entered the world about 4:30 p.m. Friday - the first day of the 81st Los Angeles County Fair.

Though a veterinarian was on hand, Rose gave birth without assistance, said spokeswoman Rachel McCallister.

DOT leader gives MTA $45 million

U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta presented MTA officials on Saturday with $45 million in grants toward new buses and to close out construction of the Metro Red Line subway.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials met with the Mineta at MTA headquarters downtown as Southern California seeks federal funds for such new projects as the Gold Line extension into East Los Angeles, as well as highway, freight and airport improvements.

5 stabbed, 1 shot in N. Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD - At least five people were stabbed and a man was found shot to death within 100 yards of one another Saturday in Hollywood, incidents that may have been related, a Los Angeles police detective said.

A group of males was confronted on the street by one or two others with a handgun and a knife near Fountain Avenue and Saint Andrews Place about 2 a.m., said Detective Mike Thrasher of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Station.

At least five people suffered stab wounds in an ensuing altercation and were taken to local hospitals where they were expected to survive, Thrasher said.

Some 100 yards away at about the same time, a robbery victim tried to escape a male suspect armed with a handgun by jumping over a guardrail by the Hollywood Freeway (101), Thrasher said.

The victim looked down and saw another man lying dead from a bullet wound, the detective said.

Biker shot dead by driver of BMW 

HOLLYWOOD - A man riding a motorcycle in Hollywood was shot and killed Saturday by a man driving a BMW when the biker jumped onto the hood of the car, a Los Angeles Police Department detective said.

Several people on motorcycles got into an altercation with at least one person in a BMW near Hollywood Boulevard and Laurel Avenue about midnight Friday, said Detective Mike Thrasher of the LAPD's Hollywood Station.

One of the motorcyclists jumped onto the BMW and was shot and killed by a man in the car, Thrasher said.

Harrison's guitar sells for $434,750

A guitar belonging to late George Harrison during the Beatles' last public performance was sold for $434,750 in a public auction in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Harrison played the custom-made Fender Rosewood Telecaster during the filming of the movie ``Let It Be,'' said Bill Miller, president of Odyssey Auctions, the California auction house that conducted the sale. The Jan. 30, 1969, performance on the roof of London's Apple Records was the last time the band performed together in public, Miller said.

The winning bidder was an ``anonymous West Coast collector,'' the auction house said.

Harrison, 58, died of cancer Nov. 29, 2001, at a home in the Hollywood Hills.
