BRIEFLY TWO MEN SOUGHT IN MARKET ROBBERY.


SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - Police were searching Tuesday for two male suspects who robbed a grocery store at gunpoint on Sunday.

The two men, described as in their mid-20s, entered the Albertson's Market on Cochran Street about 10:30 p.m., brandished a handgun and demanded money from the store manager.

One suspect vaulted a counter, removed an undisclosed amount of cash from a safe opened by the manager and handed it to the second suspect.

Both men fled the store and were last seen driving north on Sycamore sycamore: see plane tree.

Senior services grants awarded

VENTURA - More than $1.4 million has been awarded to several community groups that received one-year grants to provide services to Ventura County's older adults, officials said.

The grants include $80,000 to Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by  Senior Concerns; $24,127 to Food Share Inc.; $43,000 to Grey Law Inc.; $40,000 to Helen "To Helen" is the first of two poems to carry that name written by Edgar Allan Poe. The 15-line poem was written in honor of Jane Stanard, the mother of a childhood friend. It was first published in 1831 collection Poems of Edgar A.  Kelly Adult Day Care; $37,500 to Help of Ojai Inc.; $838,800 to the Ventura County Human Services Agency; and $84,507 to Long Term Care Services.

In addition, Moran Manor will receive $40,000; Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District, $34,583; Ventura County Public Health, $22,000; Tri-Counties Regional Center, $98,900; Shop Ahoy, $15,000; and Ventura County Transportation Commission, $66,500.

The funds are administered by the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging and are allocated under the Older Americans Act, as well as state legislation.

Sale and carwash to benefit school

SIMI VALLEY - The Simi Valley High School Simi Valley High School is a secondary school located in Simi Valley, California which was established in 1920 as the first high school in the valley. It nestles in the Santa Susana Mountains and is adjacent to the San Fernando Valley, part of the city and county of Ventura.  Music Boosters will hold a carwash and rummage sale fund-raiser, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the high school, 5400 Cochran St.

Donations will be accepted for carwashes. To contribute to the rummage sale, call (805) 581-4750.
