BRIEFLY TWO INJURED AFTER CRASH, FIRE ON 405.


Two people were injured Wednesday afternoon when a car burst into flames after colliding with another car on the San Diego Freeway The San Diego Freeway (Interstate 405, and the part of Interstate 5 south of the El Toro Y[1]) is one of the principal north-south highways in Southern California, and the major beltway of I-5 running through Southern California.  near Sherman Way.

The 2 p.m. crash forced the temporary closure of the southbound lanes in order to evacuate a critically injured man by helicopter.

`Bob Hope Airport' idea gains steam

 is adding its name to the list of organizations that support renaming the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport in honor of entertainer Bob Hope.

Hope, who lived in Toluca Lake several miles from the airport, died July 27.

The Economic Alliance had honored Hope in 1998 at its Valley of the Stars Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony.

Key Hahn deputy quits for new job

Deputy Mayor Matt Middlebrook announced on Wednesday he is leaving his job for Mayor James Hahn to join a private public-relations firm.

Middlebrook, who served as Hahn's campaign manager in campaigns for city attorney and then mayor, will be leaving on Friday to work for the firm of Fleishman-Hillard International. He will head up the firm's San Francisco office for public affairs.

Second victim sues rapist Luster

VENTURA - The second of three women drugged and raped by Max Factor heir Andrew Luster took her civil case to court Wednesday, seeking about $40 million in damages from her former boyfriend and attacker.

One of his victims already has been awarded $19 million in civil damages against Luster, who is serving a 124-year state prison term for the serial druggings and rapes. Wednesday, the 30-year-old woman known as Tonja Doe testified that when prosecutors told her they had tapes showing she had been drugged and raped by Luster, she miscarried one of the twins she was carrying. The woman had broken with Luster by then and married.
