The victim was driving a 2000 Honda at an ``unsafe speed for the wet roadway conditions'' and crashed into a parked trailer. The driver was pronounced dead at Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center at 2:45 a.m. A 20-year-old man who was a passenger in the vehicle suffered serious head injuries.

Shortly after 4 a.m., authorities were notified of a multivehicle crash on the freeway, just north of Osborne Street in Arleta, said Seumanutafa. A man in his late 20s or early 30s died at the scene, he said. All southbound lanes in the area were open again by 7:30 a.m., he said.

61-year-old man killed inside home

NEWBURY PARK - Ventura County sheriff's deputies Sunday said they found the body of a 61-year-old man who appeared to have been killed in his home.

Deputies searched the home of Larry Phifer in the 100 block of Wendy Drive on Saturday night after a friend phoned authorities to report that Phifer had not been heard from since Thursday.

The Ventura County Coroner's Office hasn't yet determined the cause of Phifer's death and deputies said they have no information on suspects. Authorities encourage anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at (805) 494-TALK.

Fatally shot gang member is named

A gang member who ran from police in the Pico-Union district and was fatally shot when he fell and reached into his waistband was identified Sunday as a 24-year-old Panorama City man.

Officers found the woman dangling over the side of the overpass, ready to end her life, Lucas said.

``She was about ready to jump,'' he said.

The officers, assisted by civilians, handcuffed the woman to a railing, Lucas said. Los Angeles County firefighters took the woman off the bridge on a ladder, he said.
