Grocer pleads to importing fish

A Koreatown market owner from Glendale pleaded guilty Tuesday to three misdemeanor counts of importing a type of fish that can lurch across land and devour native species and has no natural enemies to keep it under control.

Sung Chul ``Daniel'' Rhee, 46, entered his plea before U.S. District Judge Consuelo Marshall, who set sentencing for Jan. 10, said Thom Mrozek of the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Also pleading guilty to the same charges was Rhee's Assi Super Inc., which operates at 3525 W. Eighth St.

Under terms of a plea agreement, both Rhee and the corporation could be sentenced to three years' probation and fined $200,000.

Officials ID man killed in crash

FILLMORE - The driver of a van that crossed into oncoming traffic in a crash that killed two people on Highway 126 was identified Tuesday as Jose Luis Rizo-Sanchez, 40, of Fillmore, a Ventura County Coroner's official said.

The name of a female passenger in the van who also died in the crash was not released, pending notification of her relatives.

Board OKs plans to build condos

BURBANK - The Planning Board has unanimously recommended approval of a project to build 118 condominiums with 50,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space on a property across from the AMC (Advanced Mezzanine Card) See AdvancedTCA.  Burbank 16.

Monday's decision by the Burbank Planning Board means the City Council will consider the proposed project, which it is scheduled to do Nov. 16. Los Angeles-based Champion Development Group would build it.
