Pedestrian killed on 405 Freeway

VAN NUYS - A 42-year-old man was hit and killed early Friday as he ran across the San Diego Freeway The San Diego Freeway (Interstate 405, and the part of Interstate 5 south of the El Toro Y[1]) is one of the principal north-south highways in Southern California, and the major beltway of I-5 running through Southern California. , according to the California Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, was hit by a 52-year-old Northridge man driving a Jeep, then struck y several other cars, as he crossed the southbound 405 lanes just south of Saticoy Street, officials said.

Grenades found on Sylmar street

SYLMAR - Residents of a Sylmar neighborhood were briefly evacuated Friday after a jogger found five rusting military-style hand grenades along the 14600 block of Foothill Boulevard, authorities said.

The Los Angeles Police Department's Bomb Squad was called after the jogger found the grenades inside a five-gallon plastic bucket, officials said. The grenades were later determined to be inert.

WOODLAND HILLS - An Orange County firm vastly overcharged a San Fernando Valley-based insurance company for gear that doctors dispensed to injured workers, including a $14 pillow invoiced at $995, an Orange County lawsuit claims.

Zenith Insurance Co. of Woodland Hills filed the lawsuit against N-Care LLC and its owner, Robert Bohacs.

Moorpark trustee pleads no contest

Moorpark school board member and former city councilman Chris Evans pleaded no contest to grand theft charges Thursday and resigned his post as school board trustee, authorities said.

In a negotiated plea agreement, Evans agreed to be placed on three years probation and pay $48,000 rather than spend 90 days in county jail. officials said.

He is set to be sentenced on Dec. 22 in Van Nuys Superior Court.

Evans, 45, is accused of cashing checks intended for his former employer, Texas-based Prosource Wholesale Floorcoverings, between October 2002 and March 2003, said Jane Robison, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

Victim identified in forest rescue

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE - The Los Angeles man who fire officials believe started a fire Thursday to alert rescuers after his van plunged off Angeles Crest Highway The Angeles Crest Highway is a two-lane (one lane of travel in each direction) segment of California State Route 2 in the United States. The road is 66 miles in length, with its western terminus at the intersection at Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge and its eastern  on Monday has been identified as Jong Choi.

Firefighters discovered the 45-year-old man and his wrecked green Chevrolet Astro van when they responded to a hillside brush fire Thursday morning. Choi told firefighters he crashed his car down the steep embankment in the heavily wooded Upper El Nino Canyon on Monday.

He was airlifted to Huntington Memorial Hospital and treated for dehydration, scratches and bruises. Hospital officials would not reveal whether Choi had been released.
