Man is arrested for theft, assault

 after he stole four $32 bottles of tequila from a market at 8:50 a.m., then slashed a store employee with a knife, officials said.

Police said they arrested Thomas Owens, 32, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon Assault with a Deadly Weapon is the term used to describe the act of threatening to harm one or more people by using a weapon (usually a firearm). Here, assault must be differentiated from battery as they are often confused. Assault is threatening to use force.  after he robbed the food warehouse on the corner of Van Nuys Boulevard and Nordhoff Street.

When a store security guard tried to stop him, Owens pulled out a knife and slashed at him, cutting his finger, police said.

Store employees chased and cornered the suspect in an apartment building on the corner of Rayen Street and Tobias Avenue nearby.

Bloodied suspect taken in Sunday

A man with blood on his clothing who was stopped by police in Koreatown was arrested early Sunday in connection with the stabbing death of another man, Los Angeles police said.

Officers spotted Insop Cho, 25, earlier near Ardmore Avenue and Fifth Street, according to according to

``The suspect ... stated he was in a fight and that he had stabbed someone,'' the statement continued. ``Simultaneously, a 911 call was broadcast approximately one block away.''

Officers sent to investigate the call found the victim dead. He was later identified as Eduardo Morales, 19, of Los Angeles, according to police.

``The investigation determined that after a dispute, Cho stabbed Morales repeatedly,'' the statement continued.

Cho was booked on suspicion of murder.

Hiker is rescued after knee injury

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los  - A 66-year-old Northridge hiker was rescued Sunday after she slipped off a trail near the Bridge to Nowhere and broke her kneecap kneecap (patella), saucer-shaped bone at the front of the knee joint; it protects the ends of the femur, or thighbone, and the tibia, the large bone of the foreleg. The kneecap is embedded in the tendon tissue of the quadriceps femoris, a large thigh muscle. .

Members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Search and Rescue Team from the San Dimas station rescued Mary Patterson at about 2:10 p.m.

Patterson's shoes were wet after crossing through a small stream less than a mile north of the trail that leads to the Bridge to Nowhere, according to a sheriff's report.

She then slipped while trying to climb a hill and broke her kneecap.

Rescuers carried her to a place where she could be picked up by a county Fire Department helicopter, which took her to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. One dead, 2 hurt after shootings

Violence continued in Los Angeles on Sunday with one man shot and killed in an alley and two other men shot and wounded, police said.

The latest killing brings the number of people slain in the past eight days to 19 in a spate of mostly gang-related violence.

Los Angeles has the nation's highest homicide rate with 609 deaths this year, the most since 1996, and up from 587 murders last year.

Police were investigating a deadly shooting in an alley near downtown at 4:45 p.m., said Officer Don Cox, a police spokesman.

Police also were investigating two other shootings.

A man was in stable condition after being shot in the chest at 1:45 p.m. A 19-year-old man was shot several times about 5 p.m. in South Central Los Angeles in what police are describing as a drive-by gang shooting, said Sgt. Sam Mark.
