BRIEFLY TRAIN GETS BLAME FOR CAJON PASS FIRE.

 - Sparks from a train ignited a 630-acre wildfire that raced through the Cajon Pass, fire officials said Saturday.

No building damage or injuries were reported from the blaze, which was contained by Saturday evening, officials from the U.S. Forest Service said.

More than 400 firefighters and other personnel battled the flames in 90- degree heat in hilly terrain.

Poundstone to be in court Monday

SANTA MONICA - Comedian Paula Poundstone, who is charged with child endangerment and lewd conduct with a child, is due in a Santa Monica courtroom on Monday, when a preliminary hearing date is to be set.

Poundstone, 41, is free on $200,000 bail posted shortly after her June 27 arrest in connection with the felony arrest warrant.

Less than a week after Poundstone pleaded not guilty to the charges, defense attorney Steven Cron revealed that the comedian was in an alcohol treatment program at the time of her arrest by Santa Monica police.

Mother of groom killed in collision

SANTA PAULA - A woman taking her son to his wedding rehearsal died Thursday in a collision involving a driver suspected of being drunk, authorities said.

The groom-to-be suffered a crushed leg and a fractured pelvis in the crash on Highway 126. The tragedy stunned the 150 people who had planned to attend the Friday wedding.

Fire hose maker destroyed in blaze

Pilot, passenger injured in crash

PACOIMA - An unidentified pilot and passenger suffered moderate injuries Saturday evening when their single-engine plane apparently ran out of gas and landed upside down at the intersection of San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the  and Van Nuys Boulevard, officials said.

Detectives probe Palmdale death

PALMDALE - Sheriff's homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man whose body was found Saturday afternoon in Palmdale, authorities said.

The body of an unidentified white adult man was found at about 4 p.m. in the 3000 block of Elizabeth Lake Road, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Steve Jauch.
