BRIEFLY TORRANCE MAN SHOT IN NORTH HILLS FIGHT.


NORTH HILLS - Someone pulled a gun during a fist fight fist fight fist nFaustkampf m  Thursday night and shot a 24-year-old Torrance man, police said Friday.

The man, who was not identified, was shot three times in the upper body and was transported to a local hospital, said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police Detective Ken Crocker. The man's wounds were not life-threatening.

The shooting took place about 10:15 p.m. in the 8400 block of Columbus Avenue.

Police were searching for eight people in connection with the incident. A weapon has not been found.

Police help woman leave barricade

Deputies responded at 3:50 p.m. Thursday after receiving a call that an armed woman was barricaded in her home, breaking windows and screaming for help, officials said. The woman, who was not identified, told officers that evil spirits were chasing her. She was coaxed out of her residence and taken into custody by the SWAT team.

 officers were investigating a possible connection between two robberies at two different barbecue restaurants Friday night.

A robber with a blue bandanna over his face and a black raincoat robbed the Studio Bar-B-Q in the 11300 block of Moorpark Street about 9:25 p.m. The robber got away with cash, police said. He might have had a blue steel handgun.

A second robbery happened 30 minutes later at the Bear Pit Bar-B-Que in the 10800 block of Sepulveda Boulevard. Police were told the robber wore a mask and had an unknown type of handgun, said LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

Police were coordinating their efforts to determine whether the robberies were connected. Police had no suspects immediately.

Apparent suicide had illness history

CAMARILLO - The body of a 28-year-old resident with a history of mental illness was found hanging from a tree at the Cabrillo Middle School campus, and officials said Friday that he had committed suicide.

Vance Schafer, 28, of Camarillo hanged himself Thursday with a small cotton rope, the Ventura Police Department reported. Janitors found the body in a remote area of the campus at 5:28 p.m. Thursday.

Police said Schafer was not associated with the school.
