Bandits with knife rob liquor store

BURBANK - Three men robbed a Burbank liquor store and escaped, police said Sunday.

Pedestrian, 81, hit, critically hurt

NORTH HILLS - An 81-year-old pedestrian was in critical condition after being struck by a car in North Hills on Sunday, Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police said.

Fund-raiser tally

nears $2.5 million

WEST HILLS - The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles raised about $2.5 million by Sunday afternoon at the 22nd annual Super Sunday phone-a-thon event, according to agency spokeswoman Sherrie Newman.

Fund raising took place at three locations around Los Angeles, including West Hills, and included calls from local Assembly members and Congress members.

The nonprofit agency continued until about 9 p.m. Sunday with the event, which drew some 1,500 volunteers and aimed to raise funds for services such as social welfare, rescue and relief.
