BRIEFLY THREE MARINES DIE DURING EXERCISE.


CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - Three Marines were killed and five injured Wednesday when the vehicle they were riding in during a training exercise overturned, a U.S. Marine Corps spokesman said.

The incident occurred at 6:30 p.m., said 1st Lt. Kyle Lewis.

He said he could release no other details, including what kind of vehicle was involved, because the incident was under investigation.

Public tips sought in fatal shooting

CANOGA PARK - Police are seeking information in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Richard Robert Freitas Robert A. Freitas Jr. is a Senior Research Fellow, one of four researchers at the nonprofit foundation Institute for Molecular Manufacturing (IMM) in Palo Alto, California.  of Canoga Park.

Freitas was shot more than 10 times in the chest while riding a bicycle home early Saturday from a friend's house, authorities said.

He was traveling west on Wyandotte Street, east of Jordan Avenue, when a vehicle slowed and an occupant began firing a semiautomatic handgun, police said.

Man pleads guilty to lies about labor

A Calabasas man has pleaded guilty to making false statements to Caltrans concerning whether he had paid his laborers the prevailing wage required under federal law, authorities said Tuesday.

Teacher awaits pornography trial

CAMARILLO - A 31-year-old Camarillo High School teacher is scheduled to be arraigned today on charges that he used pornography to try to seduce a minor, officials said.

Chad Wenzlick Pridgen was in jail Wednesday in lieu of $250,000 bail, officials said.

2 pupils wounded at Gardena High
