BRIEFLY THOUSANDS RUN IN STEWART RELAY.

GRIFFITH PARK - Thousands of people made it out on a beautiful spring Sunday to run in the 23rd annual Jimmy Stewart Relay Marathon, hosted by actors Robert Wagner and Chris O'Donnell.

All proceeds benefit programs and services at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica. Since the first race in 1982, the Relay Marathon has raised $8.2 million.

Billed as the largest five-person relay race in the United States, the event was sponsored by Lexus.

Race teams were made up of five people, with each individual running 5.2 miles before passing the baton.

There were also special categories for the very young - like the Diaper Dash and the Children's Race - as well as the inaugural media invitational relay challenge.

The relay marathon included numerous divisions, according to age, gender and corporate/industry affiliation.

Winners of the Relay Marathon were the Team Runners High with a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes and 53 seconds. Winners of the inaugural Media Invitational Relay Challenge were L.A. Sport and Fitness with a time of 28 minutes and 50 seconds.

Boy shot, stable after wallet stolen

A boy was in stable condition Sunday after being shot and robbed in Los Angeles, police said.

The boy was in the 7000 block of South Madden Avenue about 1:25 a.m. when someone walked up to him, shot him in the leg and stole his wallet, said Sgt. Cliff Humphries of the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Station.

The suspect fled on foot and was still at large, he said.
