Time running out for Baca tax plan

Streetlight votes easier but costly

Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  members on Wednesday approved a measure to make it easier, although not cheaper, for residents of unlit neighborhoods to get new streetlights.

The council unanimously ordered the city's Bureau of Street Lighting to simplify ballots for residents to form assessment districts to pay for new streetlights. Tougher fire rules to go into effect

New restrictions are being placed on smoking, campfires and use of motor vehicles, stoves and guns in the Los Padres National Forest Los Padres National Forest is a forest located in southern and central California, which includes most of the mountainous land along the California coast from Ventura to Monterey, extending inland. Simi crash injures woman critically

Stroke victim, 80, missing for week

GLENDALE - An 80-year-old woman who has been in a confused mental state since suffering a stroke has been missing since June 3, Glendale police reported Wednesday.

Sogom Akopyan was last seen about 4:30 p.m. June 3 at her daughter's home in the 300 block of North Belmont Street, said Kristina Peterson of the Glendale Police Department's Robbery Homicide Unit.

Akopyan, who suffered a stroke in November, has been taking medication for heart and blood pressure problems, Peterson said. She frequents local bus lines, the detective said.

Akopyan is 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. When last seen, she was wearing a brown shirt with circles, black pants, black shoes and a gold cross necklace.
