The victim was a 19-year-old North Hills man who had been shot several times in the upper torso, police said The victim's friends told officers he was shot in an alley south of Roscoe Boulevard and east of Zelzah Street, Brady said.

The man's friends took him to the hospital's emergency room where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Councilwoman Greuel gives birth to baby boy

Walsh was a suspect in an assault on an off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy in January, in which the deputy confronted two men outside an apartment near Lassen Street and Canyon Boulevard, and one of the men shot at the officer with a handgun, officials said.

David Michael Steinberg, 36, was arrested June 30 in connection with the assault. A week earlier, an arrest warrant had been issued for Walsh, who was suspected of helping Steinberg hide from authorities.

Holiday traffic kills two in L.A. within 36 hours

At least two people died in crashes on Los Angeles County highways during the first 36 hours of the Fourth of July holiday, the California Highway Patrol reported Saturday.

Statewide, 18 traffic deaths were reported between 6 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. today.

110 firefighters battle fire near theme park
