Davis names nine L.A. trial judges

Gov. Gray Davis on Wednesday announced nine appointments to Superior Court in Los Angeles.

The appointees, who will each earn an annual salary of $133,051 in the trial court, are federal Magistrate Ann I. Jones, Superior Court Commissioner John T. Doyle, Deputy District Attorneys DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEYS. The Act of Congress of March 3, 1815, 2 Story L. U. S. 1530, authorizes and directs the district attorneys of the United States to appoint by warrant, an attorney as their substitute or deputy in all cases when necessary to sue or prosecute for the United  Martin L. Botanical garden closed by board

VENTURA - A 265-acre botanical garden was closed by Ventura County supervisors, who accused it of seven years of permit violations.

International Center for Earth Concerns, a nature preserve and parrot sanctuary near Ojai, was supposed to be used by no more than 50 people a day, but has in recent years become a magnet for weddings, fund-raising events and school field trips. Neighbors complained about traffic.

The center now must apply for a new operating permit.
