BRIEFLY SUSPECT GIVES UP AFTER LONG CHASE.


LANCASTER - A domestic-violence suspect was arrested Thursday night after leading police on a chase from Lancaster to the San Gabriel Valley The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. It lies to the east of the city of Los Angeles, to the north of the Puente Hills, to the south of the San Gabriel Mountains, and to the west of the Inland Empire.  with two children in his minivan.

The high-speed chase began before 9 p.m. when Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies responded to an address in Lancaster on a domestic-abuse call. The man, whose name was not immediately available, evaded deputies and fled south on the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. , leading CHP officers on a chase at speeds in excess of 90 mph before leaving the freeway in Pico Rivera. He drove east into Santa Fe Springs on surface streets before coming to a stop in a neighborhood, the CHP said.

A woman standing outside a home approached the van. The driver then released both children from the minivan, and surrendered at gunpoint, the CHP said. No further information was provided on the domestic-violence incident.

Fund established for slain student

SYLMAR - Los Angeles Mission College Los Angeles Mission College is a two-year community college located in Sylmar, California neighborhood of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley, United States. It is part of the Los Angeles Community College District.  has established a fund in memory of one of its students, Jesse Aguilar, who was slain Jan. 25 in North Hills.

Aguilar, 20, and his friend Steve Perez, 17, were shot to death early on the morning of Jan. 25 as they sat in Aguilar's car. Police suspect that the shootings were gang-related, although neither Aguilar nor Perez was a gang member.

The fund will help the Aguilar family pay for funeral expenses. A funeral Mass is planned for 9 a.m. Saturday at Santa Rosa Catholic Church in San Fernando, with burial to follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery The San Fernando Mission Cemetery is a Roman Catholic cemetery operated by the Los Angeles Archdiocese since 1800, and is located at 11160 Stranwood Avenue in the Mission Hills community of northern Los Angeles, California, near the Mission San Fernando Rey de EspaƱa.  in Mission Hills.

3 must stand trial in teen's slaying

VAN NUYS - Three young men were ordered this week to stand trial on murder and conspiracy charges in the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy near a high school campus in Sun Valley.

Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Michael Hoff found there was sufficient evidence to require Angel Rodriguez and Christian Hernandez, both 20, and Mauricio Montes, 19, to stand trial for the Dec. 14, 2001, slaying of Santiago Polanco.

The victim was a freshman at Francis Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley.

Also charged in the teen's killing is Juan Chavez, 22, who police believe was the shooter. He is still wanted.
