BRIEFLY SUSPECT CAUGHT IN FATAL SHOOTING.


VAN NUYS - Homicide detectives were investigating a shooting Wednesday that left a 25-year-old man dead after a dispute near an In-N-Out hamburger restaurant, police said.

The unidentified man, said to have been with his wife when he was shot, was confronted around 1:30 p.m. in the 79000 block of Van Nuys Boulevard by an assailant who fled. The gunman shot the victim several times.

After a four-hour search, officers arrested a suspect in Panorama City, authorities said.

The man in his 20s was collared without incident about 5 p.m. near Van Nuys and Roscoe boulevards after a search that involved tracking dogs, said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police Officer Jason Lee.

Trio hospitalized in two-car crash

Bank of America (NYSE: BAC TYO: 8648 ) is the largest commercial bank in the United States in terms of deposits, and the largest company of its kind in the world.
 branch on 954 S. Westlake Blvd.

The man, dressed in a business suit, entered the bank at 4:12 p.m., Tuesday and handed a teller a note demanding money. He was last seen walking north along Westlake toward Townsgate Road.

The robber was described as Asian, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds with dark wavy hair and about 30 years old.

Retrofit grant deal reopened in L.A.

The state Insurance Commission announced Wednesday that it is reopening its Earthquake Retrofit Grant Program in Los Angeles County.

Grants of up to $30,000 are available to low- to moderate-income households to retrofit against quake damage. Grant applications must be postmarked by March 15. For information, call (800) 927-4357, or go to www.insurance.ca.gov.

Forum to be held for clerk-recorder

OXNARD - A forum for the six candidates vying for the Ventura County Clerk and Recorder job will be held Feb. 5 at the Radisson Hotel, 600 Esplanade Drive.

Authorities found the last of five 100-pound canisters of nitric acid stolen along with a truck on New Year's Eve.

The last canister of the caustic chemical was recovered early Wednesday in an East Los Angeles East Los Angeles, uninc. city (1990 pop. 126,379), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a residential suburb of Los Angeles, in an industrial area. It has a large Mexican-American population. There is a performing arts center and a cultural center. A junior college is there.  alley.

The truck, with the four other canisters, was found parked in East Los Angeles on Friday. The vehicle and its hazardous cargo had been stolen from Del Amo Chemicals, a chemical distribution business in the city's Harbor area, on Dec. 31.
