BRIEFLY SUPERVISOR TO HELP REBUILD SNACK BAR.

LANCASTER - Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced his office will donate $1,000 toward rebuilding the Quartz Hill PONY League's baseball field snack bar.

Built in 1976 as a community project, the snack bar at Avenue L-8 and 30th Street West burned in a Jan. 21 fire that fire officials said may have been caused by an electrical problem.

Ana Verde school will change name

PALMDALE - Ana Verde Plaza School will revert to its original name of Palmdale Learning Plaza School.

Palmdale School District trustees Tuesday unanimously approved the name change, which was requested to avoid confusion with a Westside Union School District school being built three miles away in the Anaverde master-planned community under construction in west Palmdale.

The board also approved the school's site council request to dedicate the school's theater to a former second-grade teacher, Julia Kono-Long, who died in April 2002 after being diagnosed with a rare pulmonary disorder. A bronze plaque will be displayed in her honor by the stage.

Lancaster High stages a musical

LANCASTER - Lancaster High School's students in drama, band, vocal music, computer graphics and art classes have joined to put on the musical ``Grease'' in the school theater at 44701 32nd St. W.

Showtimes are 7 tonight, Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. The box office opens at 6:15 p.m.

This is the second year the school has put on a spring musical directed by drama teacher Jill McGrady. Last year students performed the musical ``South Pacific.''

``It's going to be a wonderful show. I want everyone to come,'' McGrady said.

Students have been in rehearsal since October, putting in 3 1/2 to 4 hours a day after school. Besides drama and vocal students appearing in the musical, the project involves art students who painted banners and designed program cover art, 10 band members who will provide music, and computer graphics students created the program.
