BRIEFLY SUBMISSIONS DUE FOR PARADE FLOAT.


GLENDALE - The Glendale Rose Float Association is seeking ideas for its entry in the 2003 Tournament of Roses parade The Tournament of Roses Parade was established, and first held, on January 1,1890, in Pasadena, California, eight miles (13 km) northeast of Downtown Los Angeles.

Rooted in tradition, this parade is broadcast on multiple television networks, watched by upwards of one
.

The theme is children's dreams, wishes and imagination. Ideas can be submitted in writing or drawings. All submissions must be on one page only, and the participant's name must be placed in a sealed envelope and taped to the back of the submission.

The deadline to send in ideas is Feb. 28. Entries should be addressed to Glendale Parks & Recreation, Attention: Nello Iacono/float design, Glendale City Hall, 613 E. Broadway, Room 120, Glendale, CA 91206.

Request to drop charges denied

A Superior Court commissioner denied a request Thursday to dismiss murder charges refiled by the District Attorney's Office against three teens accused in the stabbing death of Hoover High School Hoover High School may refer to any of the following:

Deputy District Attorney Steve Lopez said Commissioner Jeffrey M. Harkavy set a preliminary hearing for Feb. 25.

Defense attorneys for Karen Terteryan, Anait Msryan and Rafael Gevorgyan had asked the commissioner to dismiss the charges, saying the prosecutor's office has refiled the case multiple times for the same crimes.

The District Attorney's Office had initially filed murder charges against the defendants, then dismissed them in favor of obtaining grand jury indictments against the teens.

The indictments were later overturned by a state appellate court A court having jurisdiction to review decisions of a trial-level or other lower court.

An unsuccessful party in a lawsuit must file an appeal with an appellate court in order to have the decision reviewed.

Environment study for Valley city hit

Secessionists registered minor objections Thursday to plans for environmental study of San Fernando Valley cityhood.

A board member of Valley Voters Organized Toward Empowerment told the Local Agency Formation Commission that the study examining what type of environmental impact report should be required was flawed because it suggested alternatives - such as the possibility of a new Valley city having a water department that would tear up underground pipes - that were never part of the cityhood plan.

State investigating clinic over billing

PANORAMA CITY - A now-closed dental clinic is being investigated by the state for possible billing irregularities, a health maintenance organization said.

Investigators are trying to determine if representatives of the unnamed clinic coaxed the HMO's members to release personal information that would enable them to file fraudulent Denti-Cal claims, according to Yolanda Avella of the nonprofit HMO HMO health maintenance organization.
