CHATSWORTH - A suicidal man engaged in a gunbattle with police Monday at his home, but no one was struck by gunfire, authorities said.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital in fair condition, LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

Police were called to the home in the 21000 block of Gresham Street about 11 a.m. The man, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, was suicidal and became violent while being treated by paramedics, Lee said.

The man's wife and two children fled the home when police arrived, and the man began firing a weapon from an upstairs window, Lee said. He set several small fires inside the home and then confronted police in the garage, where at least one officer opened fire but didn't hit the man, Lee said.

Fall 2005 applicants are encouraged to apply electronically by logging on to www.csumentor.edu. The annual state university fee for a full-time undergraduate student is $2,334.

Three detained after police chase

HOLLYWOOD - A pursuit that started on the Hollywood Freeway ended in an Eastside neighborhood early Monday with California Highway Patrol officers detaining three people and searching for a fourth.
