A 17-year-old passenger was treated at a hospital and sent home, officials said.

``He's a really good student, one of our International Baccalaureate students, and takes a pretty full load of classes,'' Highland Principal Pat Iaccino said of the boy, whose name was not released.

Other Highland students were concerned about the boy's condition and regular counselors are on hand to deal with any problems, Iaccino said.

The boy was injured on his way to school Thursday morning. He had stopped his car at a stop sign on 37th Street East at Avenue R-8, then pulled out into the path of an SUV traveling on Avenue R-8, deputies said. Avenue R-8 has no stop sign at that intersection.

The teen was flown by helicopter to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History  in Mission Hills.
