Driver dumps van after traffic injury

RESEDA - Police were searching Saturday for the driver of an abandoned Dodge Caravan that struck and critically injured a 39-year-old man on a motorcycle in Reseda, police said.

The incident occurred at 6:15 p.m. Friday in the 18700 block of Sherman Way, police said.

The motorcyclist was transported to UCLA Medical Center UCLA Medical Center is a hospital located on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California. It is rated as one of the top three hospitals in the United States and is the top hospital on the West Coast according to US News & World Report.  in Los Angeles, where he was being treated for his injuries.

Arson suspects to be arraigned

Arraignment A criminal proceeding at which the defendant is officially called before a court of competent jurisdiction, informed of the offense charged in the complaint, information, indictment, or other charging document, and asked to enter a plea of guilty, not guilty, or as otherwise permitted  is set for Monday for three men charged with murder in the arson deaths of a family of four at their Hollywood Hills home - a crime police said may have stemmed from a business dispute.

Pravin Govin, 33, of Cypress; Govin's brother, Victor, 35, of Studio City; and Carlos Amador, 25, of Los Angeles, have been held without bail since their July 25 arrests.

The three each are charged with four counts of murder and special circumstance allegations of murder for financial gain, arson murder, murder during a robbery and burglary and multiple murder.

Pair from hospital back home again

SANTA CLARITA - Gloria Will and son Richard Will, who wandered away from a waiting room at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Panorama City about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, were safe at their Santa Clarita home Saturday, authorities said.

The two walked into the Los Angeles Police Department's Wilshire Station about 4 p.m. Friday, said Sgt. Dave Cueto.

The 74-year-old mother and 54-year-old son were uninjured but dehydrated de·hy·drate

They apparently traveled the 16 miles to central Los Angeles by foot and bus, Cueto said.

Water conserving urged in new ads

LOS ANGELES - Advertisements from the Metropolitan Water District encouraging Southern Californians to use less water will debut in newspapers across the region today.

The ads are part of a wide-ranging campaign launched by the agency to try to convince residents to conserve water in the aftermath of the driest rainfall year in Los Angeles on record.

``The ads use whimsical illustration and humor to ... call on Southern Californians to stop over-watering their plants, which is a major plant- killer,'' said Anthony Fellow of MWD MWD Metropolitan Water District of Southern California

Pedestrian killed in hit-run incident

GRANADA HILLS - A male pedestrian was stuck and killed Saturday night in Granada Hills, and police were questioning an 18-year-old woman who they say left the scene of the crash.

The pedestrian, who police identified only as a male from 40 to 50 years old, was struck at the Balboa Boulevard and Chatsworth Street intersection, police said. He died at the scene.

A car driven by an 18-year-old woman hit the pedestrian about 8:25 p.m., and the driver then left to get assistance from her family, said Officer Jason Manning with the Los Angeles Police Department's traffic division.

Police located the driver about three blocks away, he said. Her name was not released.
