BRIEFLY STATE LOTTERY NOW BIGGEST IN NATION.


The SuperLotto Plus jackpot for tonight's draw is now up to $86 million, the head of the state lottery A game of chance operated by a state government.

Generally a lottery offers a person the chance to win a prize in exchange for something of lesser value. Most lotteries offer a large cash prize, and the chance to win the cash prize is typically available for one dollar.

A single jackpot winner who chooses the 26 graduated annual payments would receive about $2,150,000 the first year, he said, and those payments would graduate to $4,386,000 by the 26th year before taxes.

A single jackpot winner would take home about $43 million before taxes. There are no state or local taxes on California Lottery prizes.

The retailer who sells a single winning $86 million ticket would receive a $430,000 bonus, Molica said.

One killed in crash with state truck

An occupant of a compact car was killed Friday when the car collided with a Caltrans truck east of Moorpark, authorities said.

County assessor Web site honored

The Los Angeles County Assessor's Office has won the prestigious Public Information Program Award for its Web site, which allows property owners to get information about parcel and recent sales data in the neighborhood, officials said Friday.

Five people died on Los Angeles county freeways and streets patrolled by the California Highway Patrol in the first 36 hours of the New Year's holiday weekend, according to according to
