BRIEFLY ST. FRANCIS DAM REOPENS TO HIKERS.


ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los  - History buffs are now free to walk near the ruins of the St. Francis Dam The St. Francis Dam was a concrete gravity-arch dam, designed to create a reservoir as part of the Los Angeles Aqueduct. The dam was located 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Los Angeles, California, near the city of Santa Clarita.  in San Francisquito Canyon after a yearlong closure was lifted by the U.S. Forest Service.

The closure, which was imposed on the area in 2002 after the devastating Copper, Bouquet and Stable fires, has been lifted for foot traffic only. Motorized mo·tor·ize

College's yoga classes to begin

VALENCIA - Yoga classes will be offered at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  starting next week and running through Dec. 15. Class will meet from 5 to 7:20 p.m. Mondays and 1 to 3:20 p.m. Saturdays.

The class is an introduction to the physical practices of yoga, including breathing techniques, poses, postures and stretching exercises to promote flexibility.

The enrollment fee is $18 per unit. For information, call Phylise Smith at (661) 362-3997.
