Summer school may take on a new meaning at California State University Enrollment
 under a policy proposed Tuesday that would allow incoming freshmen the option to enroll in the term following their high school graduation.

The proposal, presented to CSU's Education Policy Committee, comes as the nation's largest public university system braces for an estimated influx of 130,000 students by the year 2010.

Awards to honor 3 Valley teachers

Three Valley teachers will be honored at the Woodland Hills Chamber of Commerce's 2nd annual Reward Outstanding Leaders in Education awards today.

The finalists are Dorothy Henkel of St. Bernardine's of Siena, Meda Lubiner of Owensmouth Continuation High School A continuation high school is an alternative to a comprehensive high school primarily for students who are considered at-risk of not graduating at the normal pace. The requirements to graduate are the same but the scheduling is more flexible to allow students to earn their credits  and Marcia Weiss of The Castlemont School.

The first place winner will be announced today.

The ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Warner Center Marriott hotel.

Fire curbs begin in Angeles forest

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los  - Restrictions on the use of fire began Tuesday in the Angeles National Forest.

``The forest is expecting severe fire conditions for the summer and we are asking all visitors to use extreme caution for the season, especially with the upcoming Memorial Day weekend holiday,'' said Don Feser, Angeles fire management officer.
