Early-morning fire hits dry cleaners

RESEDA - A fire damaged a dry-cleaning business in Reseda on Saturday morning, officials said.

Some 45 firefighters were sent to 17732 Sherman Way after the blaze was reported about 12:50 a.m., said Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Parishioner talks man out of gun

BURBANK - A parishioner talked a suicidal man with a gun into dropping the weapon and leaving St. Finbar Catholic Church without incident Saturday, police said.

Witnesses called police at 1:07 p.m. after seeing a man with a gun run from a nearby hotel to the church at Olive View Avenue and Lamer Street, said Burbank Lt. Bob Giles. No services were going on, but a parishioner inside convinced the unidentified man to drop the weapon and go out, Giles said. The unidentified man was taken to Olive View Medical Center.
