NORTH HOLLYWOOD - Four people were injured Friday when a pickup crashed into the front of a restaurant in North Hollywood, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 8 a.m. at Tom's Burgers, at Burbank and Cahuenga boulevards, said Jim Wells Jim Wells MLA (born 27 April 1957) is a politician from the Democratic Unionist Party and a deputy speaker of the Transitional Assembly (Northern Ireland).

Wells is one of six Assembly members for South Down.

Donations sought for care packages

ENCINO - Volunteers with ``Valley For Democracy'' will be assembling care packages for U.S. troops in Iraq at Woodley Park Woodley Park refers to the following:

  • Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan, a Metro station
 today.

The group urged community members to donate items for the packages between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The volunteers will be assembling the packages near the park's Japanese garden Japanese gardens (Kanji 日本庭園, nihon teien), that is, gardens in traditional Japanese style, can be found at private homes, in neighborhood or city parks, at Buddhist temples or Shinto shrines, and at historical landmarks such as old castles. .

The specific items being sought include: phone cards, snack foods, packets of lemonade, individual packages of facial tissue, batteries, letter writing materials, books and magazines.

Pharmacist held in investigation

A Thousand Oaks man was arrested on suspicion of stealing more than $400,000 in an investment scheme, authorities said Friday.

John Hajducko, 53, was arrested on suspicion of grand theft and financial elder abuse Elder Abuse Definition

Elder abuse is a general term used to describe harmful acts toward an elderly adult, such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional or psychological abuse, financial exploitation, and neglect, including self-neglect.

He was being held in the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $500,000.

Hajducko, a pharmacist at a Ventura drugstore, is accused of enticing 12 people, several of whom were customers and over age 65, into investing in a fake pharmaceutical business, Hart said.

Hajducko lost most of that money while engaging in risky day-trading, prosecutor Shirley Hayton said.

Pedestrian dies on I-5 Freeway

GLENDALE - A vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian Friday on the southbound Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. Originally built as U.S. Highway 99, it was re-signed as Interstate 5 in 1964.  in Glendale, forcing the closure of all southbound lanes for more than two hours, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 5 a.m. near Los Feliz Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol Officer John Seumanutafa, adding that it was not immediately clear why the pedestrian was on the freeway.

Authorities withheld the name of the dead woman, who apparently was in her 50s, pending notification of relatives.

Traffic was diverted to the east- and westbound Ventura Freeway while an investigation was conducted.

Authorities began reopening southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway shortly before 7:30 a.m., Seumanutafa said.

A former entertainment industry executive was charged with wiretapping a one-time employer over a 2 1/2-year period while working for two other television production companies, prosecutors said Friday.

Randolph Steve Webster, 38, of Manhattan Beach surrendered this morning to investigators from the District Attorney's Office. He was freed on $10,000 bail after being booked, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Webster, a former executive at Fox FX, Sony Pictures and Universal Television Group, was named in a felony complaint. The complaint charges Webster with wiretapping between July 31, 2001, and Jan. 20 this year.
