PASADENA - Two earthquakes with estimated magnitudes of 4.4 and 4.2 and two smaller tremors struck beneath Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  coastal waters Thursday, but there were no reports of problems, authorities said.

Pair hurt in blaze caused by cigarette

SIMI VALLEY - Two residents suffered minor injuries early Thursday morning after a lighted cigarette left in a garage set fire to a single-family home in the 2000 block of Brentwood Avenue, officials said. Officials estimated the damage at $100,000 to the structure and $30,000 to the contents.

101 Freeway lanes set to be shut down

CAMARILLO - All lanes of the northbound Ventura Freeway from Las Posas Road to Central Avenue in Camarillo will be closed from 5 to 10 a.m. Sunday so officials can continue investigating a fiery crash that occurred Tuesday. Traffic will be diverted at the Central Avenue off-ramp and back to the Central Avenue on-ramp to the northbound 101.
