BRIEFLY SMALL QUAKES HIT EAST L.A. COUNTY.


DIAMOND BAR - A series of temblors shook eastern Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County on Sunday evening, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The temblors hit about two miles southeast of the city of Diamond Bar, along the border with San Bernardino San Bernardino, city, United States
San Bernardino (săn bûr'nədē`nō), city (1990 pop. 164,164), seat of San Bernardino co., S Calif., at the foot of the San Bernardino Mts.; inc. 1854.
 County, about 25 miles east of Los Angeles.

The largest was a magnitude-3.5 quake, which hit at 4:49 p.m. It was followed by a magnitude-3.2 quake at 5:03 p.m., according to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey.

County fire supervisor Ray Dong said there were no reports of damage or injuries.

Holiday crashes kill six in county

Six people were killed in traffic crashes on Los Angeles County highways during the first 84 hours of the Christmas holiday, the California Highway Patrol reported Sunday.

Statewide, 37 highway deaths were reported between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Sunday.

There are no comparable figures from the 2002 Christmas holiday, due to the difference in the time span covered by the maximum-enforcement periods.

Boy leads officers in winding pursuit

California Highway Patrol officers took a boy into custody after he led them on a serpentine high-speed pursuit that wound from the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. The suspect's capture early Sunday morning came after a struggle with CHP officers in which the youth received minor injuries, authorities said.

The suspect, whose name was withheld because he is juvenile, drove a small white sedan that left the Harbor Freeway in Los Angeles and stopped at Nadeau Street west of Crockett Boulevard at about 2:15 a.m., officials said.

Officers said the boy bolted out of the car, ran between the CHP cruisers and wielded a knife threateningly before he was subdued.

House fire leaves three homeless

THOUSAND OAKS - Three people were left homeless after their house on Rancho Road burned to the ground Saturday evening, the Ventura County Fire Department Not to be confused with Ventura Fire Department.

The Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) provides fire protection and emergency response services for the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, California, and for six other cities within the county.

One firefighter sprained his ankle fighting the fire, officials said.

VALLEY VILLAGE - Police are still investigating a shooting on Magnolia Boulevard, possibly gang-related, that left two men hospitalized, officials said Sunday.

The two men were shot in their car around 11 p.m. Friday near Magnolia Boulevard and Bellaire Avenue, police said.
