STUDIO CITY - A North Hollywood man replacing a sign on Ventura Boulevard Ventura Boulevard is one of the primary east-west thouroughfares in the San Fernando Valley; as it was originally a part of the El Camino Real (the trail between Spanish missions), Ventura Boulevard is the oldest route in the San Fernando Valley. It was also U.S.  was injured Monday when the sign toppled over, narrowly missing him and crashing onto the sidewalk.

Jack Edgerly, 49, was replacing a sign, 6 feet by 15 feet, from a scaffolding above a furniture and gardening store in the 13600 block of Ventura Boulevard, fire officials said. When the sign toppled about 1 p.m., Edgerly jumped 8 feet onto the roof to avoid being hit.

Edgerly, who broke his heel, was treated at Sherman Oaks Hospital Sherman Oaks Hopital (SOH) is an 153 bed acute care facility in Sherman Oaks, California, USA and is home of world renowned the Grossman Burn Center. SOH is owned and operated by Prime Healthcare Services, Inc.  and Health Center.

No one else was hurt, but the sign damaged a car door.

2 telemarketers face prison terms

VENTURA - Operators of a Simi Valley-based telemarketing firm face three years in prison after pleading guilty to felony charges of fraudulent telemarketing, prosecutors said Monday.

 officers surrendered Monday on charges that they kidnapped and assaulted a homeless man in 1997.

David Cochrane, 34, and Christopher Coppock, 28, appeared in court in response to the grand jury charges. They were booked and expected to be released on $100,000 bail each, said Deputy District Attorney Kraig St. Pierre.

Delton Bowen was allegedly terrorized by the officers on Oct. 23, 1997.

One dead, one hurt after auto hits pole

CALABASAS - One man was killed and another critically injured in a solo car crash on Mulholland Highway on Monday, after the vehicle sheared sheared

An unidentified male passenger died in the 6:17 p.m. crash in the 24700 block of Mulholland, sheriff's Sgt. John Jones said. The man driving the car was burned, possibly over a large portion of his body, and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, officials said.

A preliminary investigation showed the car might have been going at a high rate of speed before crashing, Jones said.
