NORTHRIDGE - San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.
 residents can preview their new neighborhood schools during a traveling design exhibit at California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , starting tonight.

The show, ``LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  New Schools! A Traveling Design Exhibit'' showcases 22 new schools, including four in the San Fernando Valley, planned for the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population. .

A reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in the Student Union - Grand Salon at CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge , 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge. The exhibit will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday through July 19 in the university's Student Union.

Nomination call for Bravo Award

Since 1978, the Italian magazine Guerin' Sportivo hands out the Bravo Award to the most outstanding young football (soccer) player in Europe.
 

The Music Center Education Division is calling for nominations for the 21st annual Bravo Award honoring teachers and schools for outstanding arts education. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 9 and completed applications must be postmarked by Oct. 7. For information call Barnaby Murff at (213) 202-2287.

Pair of Russians to stay in custody

A federal judge in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  on Monday ordered two Russian nationals to remain in custody, despite dismissing charges against them in an international kidnap-for-ransom case that left five Southland residents dead, including four victims from the San Fernando Valley.

In denying bail, U.S. District Judge Nora Manella said she was concerned about the safety of Andrei Agueev, 34, and Andrei Liapine, 42.

The government on June 24 agreed to drop charges against the pair in exchange for their testimony, which is set to be taken on Aug. 1 and 2.

Siren test slated at Casitas Dam Casitas Dam is a dam on Coyote Creek that forms Lake Casitas near Ojai, California. The dam is located two miles above the junction of Coyote Creek and the Ventura River. Water from the Ventura River is diverted to Lake Casitas as well.  

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department The Ventura County Sheriff's Department (VCSD) provides law enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, California, USA, as well as several cities within the county. The cities that VCSD serves are Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, and Thousand Oaks.  announced Monday that there will be a routine test of all 11 sirens in the Casitas Dam Siren System on Wednesday at noon.

Man gets 9 years for embezzling

VENTURA - Allen Henry Norton of Ventura was sentenced to nine years in state prison for embezzling about $700,000 from charitable foundations that serve developmentally disabled citizens in Ventura County and in Santa Maria, officials announced Monday.

Lottery 'fee' scam targets residents

VENTURA - Ventura County District Attorney Michael Bradbury warned residents Monday of an ``advance fee'' sweepstakes fraud targeting citizens in the county.

Callers tell citizens they have won a lottery, then try to convince the victims to transfer money in advance in order to have their winnings delivered.

Discovery of body subject of inquiry

Authorities in Ventura are investigating the death of Ann Marie Amo, 55, whose body was found in a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Flint Street on July 7, officials announced Monday.
