BRIEFLY SHERIFF'S DEPUTY HURT IN THREE-CAR COLLISION.

PALMDALE - A Palmdale sheriff's deputy was injured Wednesday in a three-car crash that sent him to the hospital.

Deputy Rick Manes' patrol car collided with the rear end of a Pontiac minivan whose driver had stopped to avoid two dogs crossing the road. The impact sent the minivan rolling into a third vehicle, officials said.

``Deputy Manes manes (mā`nēz), in Roman religion, spirits of the dead. Originally, they were called di manes, a collective divinity of the dead. Manes could also refer to the realm of the dead and, later, to the individual souls of the dead.  was taken to the hospital for a laceration laceration /lac·er·a·tion/ (las?er-a´shun)

Deputies said Tina Chadwick, 37, of Littlerock was driving a minivan across the bridge on Avenue S near 20th Street East when she stopped suddenly as two dogs ran in front of her.

Manes' patrol car slammed into the rear of the minivan, which rolled forward and hit the back of a pickup truck. The pickup drove off before deputies were able to talk to the driver.

Avenue S was closed for nearly two hours after the 10 a.m. incident, fire officials said.
