BRIEFLY SETTLEMENT OK'D IN ROYALTY CASE.


A judge in Los Angeles has approved a $4.75 million settlement on behalf of musicians, including the late Peggy Lee, who claimed the recording industry overcharged them and improperly calculated royalty payments.

Some 161 performers, or their surviving interests, will split the payment from Vivendi Universal's music division. Universal Music Group admitted no wrongdoing wrong·do·er

Transient enters plea in slayings

VAN NUYS - A transient charged with the slayings of a Universal City jeweler and his wife pleaded not guilty during an arraignment A criminal proceeding at which the defendant is officially called before a court of competent jurisdiction, informed of the offense charged in the complaint, information, indictment, or other charging document, and asked to enter a plea of guilty, not guilty, or as otherwise permitted  Monday.

Fereydun Shahidzaeh, 55, is alleged to have shot Gabris Tarakjian and his wife, Mayda, during a robbery of the Elegant Creations jewelry store on May 25.

Sunland center topic of meeting

Van Nuys High's 50th in Oxnard

VAN NUYS - The Van Nuys High School Van Nuys High School (VNHS) established in 1914, is a high school in the Van Nuys area of Los Angeles, California, belonging to the Los Angeles Unified School District: District 2.  class of 1952 will hold its 50th reunion Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Casa Sirena Hotel in Oxnard. There is a reception Friday night, a dinner and dance Saturday night and brunch on Sunday.
