BRIEFLY SERIES OF CRASHES KILLS PAIR IN CAR.


MISSION HILLS - A car being driven at a high rate of speed in Mission Hills hit a street sign, a pole, a parked car, a tree and a fence, then overturned and caught fire, killing two people inside, police said Sunday.

The series of crashes happened about 10:20 p.m. Saturday on Fox Street, just east of Arleta Avenue, said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police Officer Samuel Mather of the Valley Traffic Division.

Mather said that before losing control of the silver 2002 Nissan four-door, the driver had apparently run a stop sign.

Two of the three males in the car were pronounced dead at the scene, Mather said. Van driver killed in freeway chase

Body's discovery leads to arrest

PACOIMA - A 19-year-old Pacoima man was arrested Sunday in connection with the death of a 47-year-old man whose body was found in bushes near a Pacoima freeway, Los Angeles police said.

The victim's body was found about 6:40 a.m. at the Van Nuys Boulevard exit from the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway, said Lt. Steven Stein of the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Division.

Jose Lape Prieto was arrested later in the day, but no details on the arrest were immediately available, Stein said.

Paramedics declared the victim dead of trauma to his head, Stein said.

2 men wounded in home attack

VAN NUYS - Two men were wounded when shots were fired into the home they were in, police said Sunday.

The shooting happened in the 7300 block of Ranchito Avenue at about 7:25 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. David Storaker of the Van Nuys police station.

The two men, each shot in the leg, were taken to a local hospital. Both are expected to survive, Storaker said.
