LANCASTER - High school trustees have postponed making a decision on changes to the senior project graduation requirement, saying they want more alternatives to the senior seminar class.

The Antelope Valley Union High School District board directed staff at Wednesday's meeting to consider offering the seminar through already existing classes.

One option might be to offer the seminar through one period a week each in fourth-year English and economics and civics civics, branch of learning that treats of the relationship between citizens and their society and state, originally called civil government. With the large immigration into the United States in the latter half of the 19th cent., civics became a subject in the secondary schools and colleges through the influence of the National Education Association and other organizations. classes, trustees said. The mandatory seminar was designed to offer support and guidance to students in completing their senior projects, but was criticized by students, who said it was a waste of time and took away opportunities to take electives.
