BRIEFLY SEMINARS DISCUSS PROTECTING HOMES.


Presentations are scheduled this week on how Ventura County residents down slope from the recent fires can protect their property.

Topics to be covered by government agencies include fire progression and intensity, soil damage and flood risks, winter weather forecasts, and tools and resources for residents.

The following area meetings are scheduled:

About a dozen Pearl Harbor survivors from across the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Have brunch with Santa

MOORPARK - Brunch with Santa is set for 11 a.m. today, and children will have a chance to sit in Santa's lap, make holiday crafts and enjoy a meal in a festive environment.

Brunch will be held at Arroyo Vista Recreation Center, 4550 Tierra Rejada Road, in Moorpark. For more information, call (805) 517-6300.

Santa Claus
 will be coming to town, via the Metrolink. The city hosts Moorpark Hometown Holiday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Metrolink station on High Street and Moorpark Avenue. The event is free and will feature Christmas carolers, a band and a tree lighting ceremony.

Santa is expected to arrive around 7:45 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for the Spark of Love toy drive sponsored by Southern California Fire Departments. For more information, call (805) 517-3605.

Parade of Lights to brighten coast

OXNARD - The 38th annual Parade of Lights in Oxnard will light up a five-mile stretch of coastline around Channel Island Harbor on Friday as homes, shops and marinas glisten with holiday lights.

Five neighborhoods in Oxnard, including Hollywood Beach and Oxnard Shores, will compete in separate contests, with judging to take place Friday evening. Viewing of the lights is best by bike, car or water taxi.

Santa will make early house calls

MOORPARK - The city of Moorpark is offering home visits by Santa during the holiday season.

For $25, Santa will make a 10-15 minute visits to your home and will deliver gifts upon request. Visits are available from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 12, 13, 19, 20 and 21. Visits are available only to residents living with the city limit.
