Los Angeles International Airport (IATA: LAX, ICAO: KLAX, FAA LID: LAX
 was completed Tuesday with the phasing in of 1,600 federal security employees, Mayor Jim Hahn announced.

LAX now has the largest passenger screening work force of any of the nation's 429 commercial airports, and the federal takeover was completed two weeks before the congressional deadline of Nov. 19.

The Transportation Security Administration has federal screeners working at 272 airports, with the phase-in at LAX and Ontario International Airport beginning Oct. 8.

2-vehicle crash injures young boy

TARZANA - A 10-year-old boy was seriously injured in a Tarzana traffic collision Tuesday involving an SUV and another vehicle, officials said.

The crash in the 5200 block of Avenida Hacienda was reported at 2:03 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Cardenas files candidacy notice

Asian conference planned at CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  

NORTHRIDGE - Educators and community activists from across the country will gather at California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , on Nov. 16 for a daylong conference examining Asian/Pacific Islander American Sexuality, including subjects such as sexual stereotypes, sexual exploitation, sexual health, relationships and sex in the workplace.

The event will end with a reception and art exhibit at the university's West Gallery in the Art and Design Center, ``emBodyment.''

Computer grant awarded to CSUN

NORTHRIDGE - California State University Enrollment
, Northridge's Center for Community Service-Learning has been awarded a $20,000 grant to teach computer literacy to disadvantaged families.

The project, ``University Partnership for Learning the Internet with our Family Together,'' or UPLIFT, received the grant from WorldCom, Brown University and Campus Compact.

Bus route to grow during peak hours

The Northridge DASH bus service was expanded to include areas south of Roscoe Boulevard and parts of Chatsworth during peak traffic hours.

The expanded route includes stops on Reseda Boulevard, Sherman Way and Wilbur Avenue, in addition to the existing route along Tampa Avenue, and Nordhoff and Parthenia streets.

DASH Northridge runs from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. The fare is 25 cents.
