Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.
 secession is still holding on to about a 3,900 vote margin in the Valley, but losing citywide, in the latest vote count released Friday afternoon. The Valley-only count has cityhood ahead with 136,502 votes in favor and 132,632 votes against.

But the measure still loses by more than a 2-1 margin overall because the citywide count, including the Valley, is 415,992 votes against and 205,182 in favor.

The County Registrar-Recorder's Office still has 7,802 provisional ballots from throughout the county to tally.

Life sentence for kidnap, extortion

A Texas man was sentenced Friday to life in prison plus 10 years for the kidnapping, false imprisonment false imprisonment, complete restraint upon a person's liberty of movement without legal justification. Actual physical contact is not necessary; a show of authority or a threat of force is sufficient. City offering free rides to light show

City officials hope free shuttle service to the annual holiday light festival in Griffith Park Griffith Park is a large public park at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is situated in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The park covers 4,210 acres (17 km²) of land, making it one of the largest urban parks in North America.  will help ease traffic at the monthlong event this year.

The Zoo, located in Los Angeles' Griffith Park, is home to 1,200 animals from around the world.
 parking lot to the Department of Water and Power's festival on Crystal Springs Drive on peak nights - Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The festival will be open nightly through Dec. 26, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Event planners predict as many as 500,000 Angelenos will visit the display of lights, stretching one mile along Crystal Springs Drive.

Shuttles will depart continuously during the weekend evening hours: Friday, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m; and Saturday and Sunday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Kaiser donation will help clinics

Kaiser Permanente Southern California gave $100,000 Friday to an organization whose 40 member clinics are the only source of health care for many of the nearly 3 million uninsured people in Los Angeles County.

The Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County will use the grant to maintain and expand the programs it provides to community clinics, and to update its technology and financial management systems, said Chief Executive Officer Mandy Johnson.

The grant from Kaiser was increased by $30,000 from last year, and is the largest amount the eight-year-old association has ever received.

CCALAC CCALAC Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County  is doing ``a phenomenal job,'' said Richard D. Cordova Cordova, Spain: see Córdoba. , the head of Kaiser Permanente Southern California Region.

Half of Los Angeles County's 18 public health clinics were recently closed due to the state budget crisis, a rise in uninsured reduced Medicaid reimbursements and cuts in state and federal funding.
