Parks, who retired earlier this month after the city refused to renew his contract, has said he plans to study the secession issue, as well as a run for City Council. Also at the forum will be Richard Close, chairman of Valley Voters Organized Toward Empowerment, along with two academic experts.

The event is the second in a series of town hall meetings on secession organized by Rev. Frederick Murph of Brookins Community AME See AIT.  Church.

Dinner will be at 6 p.m., with the town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the church, 4831 S. Gramercy Place. For information, call (323) 296-5610.

Homeless man hit by Metrolink train

NORTHRIDGE - Police on Tuesday were investigating the death of an apparently homeless man who was hit by a Metrolink train near the Northridge Station.

Paramedics responded to the scene of the train crash a half mile east of the station in the 18000 block of Parthenia Street at 1:48 p.m. and found a body on the tracks, officials said.

Advisory council slates 1st meeting

WOODLAND HILLS - The Woodland Hills-Warner Center Neighborhood Council will hold its first meeting at 6:30 p.m. today in the the Parkman Middle School auditorium, 20800 Burbank Blvd.

Certified in March, the council will serve as a citizens advisory committee to the Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States. .

Membership is open to anyone who lives, works or does business in the Woodland Hills-Warner Center community.

Holiday death toll down on highways

Traffic crashes on Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County highways claimed one life during the 78-hour Memorial Day holiday, compared with six fatalities during the same period last year, authorities said Tuesday.

Statewide, 40 people were killed in traffic crashes from 6 p.m. Friday to midnight Monday, compared with 45 deaths during the same period in 2001, officials said.

Ventura lifeguards facing budget axe

VENTURA - Ventura County officials are proposing to trim lifeguard patrols at three popular beaches to help close a multimillion-dollar budget deficit.

Harbor Director Lyn Krieger is recommending that lifeguards be posted at Hollywood, Silver Strand Silver Strand is a name used for some beaches:

VENTURA - The Board of Supervisors meetings are going global.

Starting June 4, anyone with an Internet connection can watch the five politicians hash out county policy, set sewer rates and, occasionally, trade insults.

Police ID man killed in struggle

WINNETKA - A man killed May 19 in a struggle with several Los Angeles police officers was identified by police Tuesday as Fermin John Castro, 34.

Castro was shot after he lunged at police with a pair of scissors scissors

Griffith Park scene of more brush fires

Two small brush fires broke out Tuesday in Griffith Park, where a series of suspicious fires has erupted over the past seven weeks, officials said.

None of the brush fires since April 6 has burned more than five acres.
