City Charter decision delayed

The Los Angeles City Council on Friday postponed a decision on an ordinance that would strip the mayor of lobbying authority under the new City Charter.

The Mayor's Office opposes the ordinance and plans to meet Monday with the chief legislative analyst and the City Attorney's Office to seek a compromise, said Deputy Mayor Kelly Martin.

The plan would assign lobbying duties to the chief legislative analyst, but critics say it undermines provisions of the voter-approved charter, which will take effect July 1.

Council members said they want to postpone the vote until at least Tuesday, to hear from the city attorney.
