BRIEFLY SCHOOL BUS STRUCK BY CAR IN LANCASTER.


LANCASTER - A school bus that had stopped to let off kindergartners at Jack Northrop School was hit by a car, but no injuries were reported, officials said Wednesday.

Two vehicles had stopped behind the bus as its red lights were flashing about noon Wednesday, Lancaster School District Lancaster School District may refer to:

  • School District of Lancaster, Pennsylvania
  • Lancaster Independent School District, Texas
 officials said. A third car rear-ended one of the other cars and pushed it into the front of the bus, district officials said.

There were two kindergarten students on the steps of the bus, on their way out as the crash occurred, but the bus driver pulled them to safety, officials said.

Lone man sought in robbery at bank

PALMDALE - A robber walked into a Valencia Bank branch at 520 W. Palmdale Blvd., threatened to kill the clerk, then fled with more than $1,000 in cash, officials said Wednesday.

The suspect in the robbery, reported about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, was described as an African-American man, 22-25, wearing baggy clothing, a black beanie bean·ie

Crime show leads to parolee's arrest

LITTLEROCK - After seeing a surveillance video played on ``Street Beat,'' a true-crime show broadcast on Adelphia Cable, a sheriff's deputy arrested a man in the Jan. 15 burglary of a local market, officials said Wednesday.

Lancaster man, 26, sent to prison

LOS ANGELES Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  - A Lancaster man was sentenced Monday to six years in prison after he pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the slaying of an Alhambra 19-year-old who was stabbed to death outside a Lancaster pool hall.

Michael Soliven, 26, entered his plea before the start of his second trial. His first trial ended in a mistrial A courtroom trial that has been terminated prior to its normal conclusion. A mistrial has no legal effect and is considered an invalid or nugatory trial. It differs from a "new trial," which recognizes that a trial was completed but was set aside so that the issues could be  when a Los Angeles Superior Court jury acquitted him of first-degree murder but deadlocked on lesser charges.

Soliven, a hospital surgical technician, was one of three men charged in the killing of 19-year-old John Ngo. Investigators said Ngo was an innocent bystander by·stand·er
