LANCASTER - Sharon Runner Sharon Runner (born May 17 1954, Los Angeles) is a Californian politician. She has been a member of the California State Assembly since 2002. Runner, a Republican from Antelope Valley represents the 36th district.  was sworn in Monday in Sacramento as the 36th District assemblywoman, representing the Antelope and Victor valleys.

Runner, a Lancaster Republican, replaces her husband, George, who retired after three terms, the maximum allowed under the state's term limits law.

Lancaster Mayor Frank Roberts and Councilman Ed Sileo were among 70 relatives, friends and constituents at the swearing-in.

Historian to speak on early aviation

PALMDALE - An aviation historian will speak Wednesday about the processes behind 18th-century balloon flights and the Wright brothers' first aircraft flights in the early 20th century.

Aviation historian Tom D. Crouch, senior curator of the Division of Aeronautics at the National Air and Space Museum The National Air and Space Museum (NASM) of the Smithsonian Institution is a museum in Washington, D.C., United States, and is the most popular of the Smithsonian museums. It maintains the largest collection of aircraft and spacecraft in the world. , will discuss ``Inventing Flight - The Science of Balloons, the Technology of Wings.''

The free program is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Palmdale City Council Chambers, 38300 Sierra Highway, Suite B. Seating is limited. Reservations can be made by calling the NASA NASA: see National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

 Dryden Flight Research Center The Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC), located inside Edwards Air Force Base, is an aeronautical research center operated by NASA. On March 26, 1976 it was named in honor of the late Hugh L.  at (661) 276-3458.

Free basketball clinic on Saturday

LANCASTER - The Antelope Valley Athletic Club, the Cherish the Child organization and Robertson's Palmdale Honda will host a free basketball clinic Saturday for youngsters age 8 to 17.

The clinic will teach basketball techniques, sportsmanship, injury management and nutrition.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with the clinic wrap-up at 3 p.m. The clinic will be held at Lancaster High School Lancaster High School may refer to:

``The clinic is our way of giving back to the community by offering a free, fun and safe service to many youth and their families,'' said Gary Thomas, AVAC AVAC Automated Vacuum  president.
