BRIEFLY ROMER VOWS TO USE MEASURE K FUNDS.


Los Angeles schools Superintendent Roy Romer Roy R. Romer (born October 31, 1928 in Garden City, Kansas, United States) was the 39th governor of Colorado and served as the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District from 2001 to 2006.  vowed Wednesday that the district will use the billions of dollars in Measure K funds that voters approved ``to get everything done that we promised.''

Woman to face trial in fatal van crash

Foothill Freeway expansion to open

The 14-mile Foothill Freeway extension from La Verne to Rancho Cucamonga will open for traffic sometime late Sunday after the long-awaited expressway's opening day ceremonies, Caltrans officials announced Wednesday.

State officials gave no specific time, saying only the freeway will be ready for Monday's morning commute.

Once the 14-mile stretch is open, the extension will run from Foothill Boulevard in La Verne east to Deer Creek Boulevard in Rancho Cucamonga. A portion of the freeway from Deer Creek to Fontana's Sierra Avenue opened last year.

The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremonies are scheduled to take place noon Sunday on the Foothill's eastbound lanes at Base Line Road near the border of Claremont and Upland.

Anaheim woman pleads not guilty

SANTA ANA - An accused leader of a white supremacist group pleaded not guilty Wednesday to possession of bomb-making materials.

Christine Greenwood, 28, of Anaheim entered the plea in Orange County Superior Court.

Greenwood and her boyfriend, John Patrick McCabe, 23, have been charged with two counts of possessing bomb-making material and an enhancement allegation of promoting gang membership in white supremacist groups.
