BRIEFLY ROLLING CAR EJECTS WOMAN, KILLING HER.LANCASTER - A Lancaster woman was killed early Thursday when her car went out of control on Avenue N and rolled at least twice, throwing her out. Jackie Ann Smith, 37, apparently was not wearing a seat belt when her 1992 Infinity crashed at 2:53 a.m. on Avenue N near 36th Street West, sheriff's officials said. The westbound car crossed into the eastbound lane and onto the soft dirt shoulder, then went out of control and flipped when Smith pulled back onto the pavement, officials said. A nearby resident heard the crash and called for help. - Daily News Minor earthquake shakes west area GORMAN - A 3.0 magnitude earthquake rattled the far western Antelope Valley early Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The 2:02 a.m. quake was centered near Highway 138 about two miles east of Quail Lake, or about 32 miles west of Lancaster and 11 miles southeast of Gorman. Residents of Castaic and the western Antelope Valley who reported the shaking to a U.S. Geological Survey Web site said they felt the quake weakly. - Daily News |
