BRIEFLY RESERVE DEPUTY RECRUITING SLATED.


LANCASTER - The Lancaster sheriff's station will hold its monthly recruitment session at 10 a.m. Saturday for men and women interested in joining the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Sheriff's Department's Reserve Deputy Program.

The two-hour session will provide information about the program and preliminary paperwork for people interested in starting the application process.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, ages 20-54, with a high school diploma A high school diploma is a diploma awarded for the completion of high school. In the United States and Canada, it is considered the minimum education required for government jobs and higher education. An equivalent is the GED.  or equivalent.  serve in several capacities, including uniformed patrol, search and rescue, and posse - for those who have their own horses.

No reservations are required but all applicants must report to the station lobby before 10 a.m.

Christian parody band set to play

PALMDALE - A Christian parody band described as a mix of Weird Al Yankovic and Billy Graham Noun 1. Billy Graham - United States evangelical preacher famous as a mass evangelist (born in 1918)

 will perform Friday at a Palmdale church.

Spoofing songs from Elvis to Eminem with lyrics from Genesisto Revelation, ApologetiX will be performing in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Horizon Community Church, 1850 E. Avenue R in Palmdale.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Youth pastors A youth pastor, or Christian youth minister, is a pastor who is trained specifically to work with youth. Most youth pastors serve young people between twelve and eighteen years old.  or leaders get a free ticket when they bring 10 or more youths.

Specializing in biblical spoofs of rock hits, ApologetiX is known as the ``Weird Al Yankovic'' of Christian music, organizers said.

The band performs all over North America, including major Christian festivals, and has also been featured on programs as diverse as ``The 700 Club,'' the Howard Stern radio show, Billy Graham's ``Decision Today'' and ``The Dr. Demento Show.''

``Look Yourself,'' the first single from the band's eight CD, is parody of rapper Eminem's Grammy-winning ``Lose Yourself,'' from the movie ``8 Mile.''

As Eminem's original is loosely an account of his own rise as a rapper, so ApologetiX lead singer and lyricist lyr·i·cist

 J. Jackson says his parody is largely autobiographical: one man's salvation experience and the obstacles he encounters as he attempts to share his newfound faith with family and friends.

``Just because it's funny doesn't mean it isn't true,'' Jackson said. ``Our main mission is to teach Christians and reach non-Christians with our biblical parodies.''
