At its 6 p.m. meeting Wednesday, the City Council is scheduled to vote on an appeal filed by Rancho Vista homeowners seeking to block the 90-unit complex at Rancho Vista Boulevard and Avenue O-8.

Mayor Jim Ledford said the issue will likely be postponed, however, because Councilman Jim Root will be absent because of personal business.

Teenager jailed in gang slaying

CALIFORNIA CITY - A California City teenager is in custody in connection with a 2001 slaying in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , police said.

Man shot in head; suspects sought

QUARTZ HILL - Sheriff's homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man found shot in the head in his backyard workshop.

The man was found dead about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, officials said. Neighbors reported seeing men with backpacks leaving the house earlier in the day, officials said. One neighbor said a man asked for directions on how to get to Santa Ana Santa Ana, city, El Salvador
