GRANADA HILLS - More than 50 residents picketed Saturday at the front gate of the Sunshine Canyon Landfill, protesting the removal of the third senior county inspector since the Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  voted to reopen the site in December 1999, organizers said.

The residents marched from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to raise concern over the inspector's removal, which they claim could result in a lack of experienced oversight at the facility, said organizer Esther Simmons who lives in Granada Hills.

County officials were not immediately available for comment.

Police officials said the protest was orderly and that no arrests were made.

Falling power pole backs up freeway

LA CRESCENTA - All lanes of the Foothill Freeway were closed for more than an hour Saturday afternoon because a power pole was about to fall across the freeway, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

CANYON COUNTRY - A 640-pound pig escaped harm early Saturday morning after motorists reported the errant animal wandering along the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. Just before 2 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers were able to corral the white, pink and gray animal from the northbound lanes near Placerita Canyon, using patrol cars to form a makeshift pig pen.

According to the CHP, the animal's owner said it dug a hole under a fence at a Santa Clarita home and escaped.

Earlier sex attack by driver alleged

A Metropolitan Transit Authority bus driver facing charges of sexually assaulting a passenger was previously found liable in a civil case alleging a similar attack 15 years ago, court records show.

Leonard Howell, 56, of Pomona is scheduled to go on trial Monday after pleading not guilty to sexual assault charges.

The MTA cannot comment on why Howell was allowed to keep his job after the 1991 case because the agency is barred by law from discussing personnel matters, spokesman Ed Scannell said. However, Howell has been suspended without pay pending resolution of the current criminal case, he said.

Grand jury indicts 13 gang members

SANTA ROSA - A federal grand jury has indicted INDICTED, practice.
